Coincidence or a sixth sense? Apr25 '04
Similar mind patterns never cease to amaze me.
I read a lot of web logs from other professionals in the web technology/creative industry, and there are many times when one of these web log authors is discussing the same exact thing I am learning – at the same exact time I am learning it.
Coincidence? Probably.
Unless... Is there a reason behind it? Similar minds think alike? Timing is everything, after all.
In ancient times, before anyone could communicate with anyone outside of a ten mile radius, there was industrial breakthroughs occuring at the same exact point in time – on opposite ends of the planet.
A sixth sense? Could be...
If you consider the inventions of the 18th and 19th centuries, you may wonder why nobody thought to create the amazing things that we have TODAY, considering they probably had most or all of the same tools and materials that we use now.
Could it be that the human mind can only create something BETTER than what was previously invented? After all, you can’t create something from nothing.
Or can you?
The main two guys that seem to always be discussing the very things that I am pondering at a certain point in time are Dave and Matt.
Now... there are many others that contribute to this too, but these two guys seem to hit the ball quite often.
For instance, Dave recently discussed using the built–in web server on Mac OS X, in combination with PHP, MySQL, and CSS.
It’s funny, because this is something that I am just learning as well, and finding very powerful. Essentially, it equates to the ability to host your own web sites, that run solely on your machine, but still are able to utilize all the powerful server–side programming languages and techniques. (Sorry to talk so technical)
In any case, it kind of makes you wonder if myself, and these gentleman, are indeed on the same learning paths, then we should simultaneously discover the same new thing or technique – at the same exact point in time.
But the funny part is, we don’t have any direct contact with each other, but we still somehow land on the same topic, at the same time.
Very cool indeed.
Now don’t get me wrong. These guys probably know a LOT more than I do. I just notice that sometimes our thoughts collide.
And I do believe in a sixth sense. It exists, and it ties minds together.
