Hotlink to images in Flickr Aug08 '05

From now on, I’m going to hotlink to images (within posts) from Flickr.

The system I’ve been using for years is a manual, FTP approach, where I create a separate folder for each entry that contains an image. I typically label that folder with the current date, and the image file, as well.

Honestly, I’m really tired of manually doing anything, when it comes to the web. Specifically images.

Image organization has been bugging me for a long time, and there is still yet to be a great solution for the massive quantities of images that I collect for personal use, and web production use.

Flickr is the best approach to date. In fact, Flickr is so seamless and uninterrupted - it makes me giggle helplessly, each time I use it, like the Pillsbury Dough Boy.

I can’t imagine a more enjoyable application, to date.

It’s so instantaneous to go from camera to Flickr - and the features offered for each image saves a lot of time. They typically offer five different sizes for each image - and the ability to link to each image directly, from another site.

So, instead of having to go into Photoshop, crop the image down to size, save it out, create the folder, upload it, jot down the image location (so I can link to it).... I could go on.

All I have to do is copy/paste one line of code, from Flickr!

So... Flickr will hold all of my images from now on. Is that bad? Surely, it could be, when they go out of business, and where do my images go then?

Tim already discusses this, and there is no simple solution.

But, for now, I think I will be OK.
