Blog entries become "history" too quick Oct18 '05

The great part about writing a blog is that each entry is stamped with a date and time.

The downfall of writing a blog is that each entry is stamped with a date and time.

It’s nice to know that any thought - no matter how small or big - can have a permanent place in the great "plain of life."

However, once a new entry is posted, all previous entries take a back seat, and eventually get buried into a mix of archived pages and "permalinks."

Sure, all entries reside in the database, but some are nowhere to be found on the main pages, that are displayed when a visitor first comes to the site. They’d have to search through my archives (which is multiple clicks) - and that’s if they can find the search box.

Sure, it’s my job to make the search box visible - but that’s also the whole point of this entry.

I wish there was simply a better way to display content - instead of having people only find it through external search engines.

I toyed with the idea (for my larger and more in-depth articles) of giving them a permanent link on the front page - but that soon becomes a convoluted approach.

It seems that a web site’s worth is only that when search engines link to it. However, a search engine only gets people to your site. It’s your job to keep them there.
