Gmail interface updates Dec07 '05

Gmail seems to be rolling out changes, today, in real-time. I’ve noticed a few things that weren’t there an hour ago.

For example, the drop-down (select list) at the top - the one that says "More Actions..." now has "Delete" as an option, instead of "Move to Trash," which is what it used to be.

Also, I noticed an ad for Google Talk appear in the left sidebar, right above the Labels area. There is an option to remove the ad, by clicking the tiny "x" in the upper right corner.

Most significantly, you can now view attachments as HTML, instead of downloading them directly. Sometimes I don’t need to download the attachment - I just want to view it quickly.

With images, this was always the case. But I recently received an Excel file, as an attachment, and I was able to quickly view it in the browser, instead of downloading and having to open it in Excel.

This is extremely helpful, and saves time.

I’m sure these changes will be reflected in some Google news update - somewhere - perhaps within Gmail itself, in the upper right corner.
