Tax time: web-based software Feb09 '06
It’s that time of year again - tax time.
Taxes have to be submitted before April 15, under strict penalty of the United States government. (They’ll toss your ass in jail.)
Every year I look for more efficient ways to do my taxes, and every year I seem to "fall short."
The problem is I like to use a Mac, and there doesn’t seem to be any decent tax software for that platform. It’s getting better, as TurboTax introduced a Mac-compatible version, a couple years back - but it’s not very reliable on the Mac. It seems to go very slow, and crash quite often.
The Windows version of TurboTax seems more stable, so that’s what I’ve used in recent years.
I’m beginning to think, in this age of AJAX, web-based software - there must be an online-only interface, which gets everything done for you.
Upon visiting both web sites of TurboTax, and H&R Block, I found out that there is, in fact, such a thing!
I have to look further into it, but I think both companies offer a web-based interface, to get your taxes done - which eliminates my need for platform-specific software. If it’s all online, I can get it done anytime, anywhere!
As a side note - I also noticed both "tax web sites" of TurboTax and H&R Block conform to a web-standards/XHTML approach!
Also, I’d like to compare both online versions (TurboTax and H&R Block), and possibly write a review for PITT, but I’m not sure you can submit your taxes twice...
