You can get any type of alert - email or SMS - but only on your "primary" calendar. If your calender has any depth to it (with multiple calendars), you can't receive alerts on anything but the primary.
GCal Help even admits to other bugs, as well.
I appreciate that GCal was released when it was, but there's too many bugs right now. I would have rather waited longer, than toy around with a "partial product."

what kind of alerts do you get? I haven’t gotten around to setting this up. Do you get SMS messages on your cell phone? My Sanyo Sprint cell phone is so slow with text messaging, I’d rather get email notifications, can you do that?
