100 million forced updates Jan14 '07
100 million IE 7 installations? They're actually proud that people are upgrading their browsers? Many who are probably forced to because of a security issue, or perhaps their workplace is automatically updating it.
On the other hand, how many people are voluntarily upgrading to IE 7 - for the purpose of a better browsing experience? Hardly any, if I had to guess.
Web developers certainly aren't doing it for better CSS support, because little improvements have been made.
This comment on the IEBlog says it all:
I've not seen much users voluntary installing IE 7. In contrast - users do install Opera and Firefox on their own will.
People are upgrading because they have no other choice.
A bigger deal is how many people switched away from IE, as Firefox downloads currently sit at 285,103,455, and climbing every second.
Does Firefox count how many people upgrade to the latest version? No. That's an irrelevant number.
