Google Desktop on the Mac is not necessary Apr04 '07
I noticed Google recently released their Desktop software for Mac OS X.
Google Desktop promises:
- Fast and easy search for your computer like Google.com for the web.
- Launch applications and files with just a few keystrokes.
I appreciate Google's effort, but this really isn't needed on Mac OS X.
Mac OS X is already equipped with a local search utility called Spotlight, which does exactly what Google Desktop offers.
There are also many popular third-party utilities that perform the same functions, and have been available for years - namely Quicksilver and LaunchBar.
I can't see any reason to even try Google Desktop for the Mac.
(I didn't, however, write this post just to bash it, so maybe I will give it a try on some rainy afternoon.)
Someone needs to do a full write-up on the differences between all of these products.
