Blog slogans Jun24 '07
I used to include a slogan, or "tag line," alongside my blog title.
I've since discontinued it, but every so often I'll come across some creative slogans on other blogs. I also think of some myself.
Here's a short list of slogans I've recently pooled together. Some of them are fine-tuned, and others are just passing ideas that would never see the light of day. Others are relatively complex puns or "play on words."
- "Getting to the bottom of it."
- "Seeing what's there."
- "Discovering me discovering you."
- "Me discovering you discovering me."
- "Taking things a tad too seriously."
- "Get in. Get out. Get on with your life." (Ripped off from Chili's)
- "I expect better."
- "Learning to be ignorant."
- "On becoming ignorant."
- "In sight, in mind." (opposite of "out of sight, out of mind.")
- "What don't I know?" (opposite of "what do I know?")
- "What I don't know can help you."
- "What you don't know can help me."
Without explaining the meaning of all of these, I wanted to talk further about two of them: "What don't I know?" and "Learning to be ignorant."
"What don't I know?"
At first glance, "What don't I know" sounds arrogant and presumptuous. This is good because that's what blogs are: self-involved reflections or analysis. Blogs are all ego.
At the same time, "What don't I know" also asks the question, "What do I need to learn?" Literally, what do I not know? I often learn from my own blog. The process of mentally formulating blog posts through the act of writing is, in itself, a learning process. Sometimes I just need to "get it out on paper" to understand it better.
"Learning to be ignorant"
This statement goes a long way. Everyone has heard the phrase, "Ignorance is bliss." This statement is so utterly true. To clarify - it's the mental state of ignorance that creates a sense of peace. It's not the fact that I don't know the capital of Argentina. I certainly don't get bliss from that.
It's not the "knowing" that comes from a solid education and upbringing. Rather, it's the absence of the random, unconvincing mental noise that promotes peaceful mind and body.
So, "learning to be ignorant" - how does that work?
The more we learn in life, the smarter we become. But is it truly our knowledge that gives us peace? No. It's our lack of mental noise - the "not knowing" that gives us peace.
Therefore, the more I learn from my own blog, the less susceptible I become to extraneous mental chaos (hopefully). Kind of like, "more is less."
