Google Chart API Dec08 '07

For web developers looking to implement graphical charts into their web applications, the Google Chart API may be just the ticket. By issuing a parameterized URL, charts are generated on the fly, written out as PNG image files. Go ahead and pass URL's of charts around, or embed them into your web applications.

Here's an example URL:

http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=p3&chd=s:hW&chs=250x100&chl=Hello|World

This will generate the chart below:

Everything is done on Google's servers, so there's no burden for you. However, you are limited to 50,000 queries per user, per day.

My thoughts

I like this idea a lot, but I'm concerned about it always being there. If I dedicate my time to a web application using Google Chart API, then one day Google decides to pull the plug on this little side project, my web app will be in the dark.

I'd like some way of maintaining the PNG files on my own server, if at all possible.
